Dementia Endured
One of 25 Best Alzheimer’s Blogs of 2012
![]() |
Mike Donohue is a brave man. Courageous, direct, and bold, his blog energizes readers with a passion for action. Dementia Endured gives a hint in the title as to the nature of this talented writer: he will endure. And with a personality like Mike’s, it’s easy to believe that he shall overcome, as well!
His life experiences are opened to the reader, and his journey recovering from alcoholism to adjusting to Alzheimer’s holds its own fascination for visitors to his site. Mike’s strength and determination will remind readers that dementias are one area in which it’s best not to hold any punches.
THIS BLOG IS ABOUT MY JOURNEY FROM AA TO AD.
I have survived alcoholism from which
I recovered thirty six years ago then
Alzheimer's disease with which I was
diagnosed nearly five years ago. Both
have had profound consequence. They
are associated, one leading to the other.
I write about the experience in a book
entitled From AA to AD, a Wistful Travelogue

THE FREEDOM ON NOW Part 1
In keeping with the theme I have been following, namely: “There
is more than the eye can see” which comprise all of my blog posts since: 2-13-12
·
The series starts
with the last:
and goes from there
in inverse chronological order,
(that is from last to first.) Click on any
title to go there and read it.
The foregoing theme has to do with my musings about existence
as it is beyond the view we have from the horse like blinders we wear in this
world of ours. We simply do not see all that exists and impacts on us.
That series the theme of which is “there is more than the
eye can see) speaks of the existence of
so much beyond our ability to see which intimately influences each and every
action of our lives.
I now switch from
this theme to a series on how it all affects us in this space/time limited
life. We do see the impact it has on us. This affect is so manifest in its
effect on our lives we cannot deny it. We accept it is all a normal part and purpose
of our existence. I have posted an essay I posted on my blog some time ago that
I have revised somewhat which opens the topic and sets the theme. I have posted
it in my Archive. It is entitled THE FREEDOM ON NOW Part 1. Click on the title to go there and read it.
Boiled out to its essentials I deduce
that as we screw around with all the talents, all the baubles, all there is to acquire
and be in this life, as is normal and expected, we at some point need to come
to terms with who we are in what we are doing. If we can do this we can
experience an Epiphany through which we direct everything we are, everything we
have become, to fulfilling the purpose of coming into this life and leaving it
better for the experience of it.
